research galore!

so i'm chilling at my internship at the moment, but i'm kind of in limbo land with no project to work on right now. what do i do to fill my spare time? senior sem homework of course!!! i've been surfing the net all morning finding all kinds of different artists who i can draw inspiration from.

a couple of examples:

"Napoleon Tree"
Rodney Graham
archival lightjet photo
1996
16.75 x 15"

Graham was working on a project involving trees of historical significance. he found this tree in belgium i believe and it is said that napoleon bonaparte himself sat underneath it and had lunch on his was to the battle of waterloo. i like this picture because of his decision to turn it upside down. it makes the image more interesting and adds a certain dynamic. i've been thinking about playing with the perspective of my tree sculptures and this gives me inspiration. :)

"Rebirth"
Erik Otto
House paint, spray paint, pencil, and collage on box panel

Otto used items that he found in a San Francisco dump to create this piece. it shows the issue of how things that are thrown away and put to waste can be overwhelming, what with the houses being engulfed by the watery mass. but it also gives hope that things can be turned around and objects that are deemed useless can once again become useful in another way with the use of recycled materials as the medium and the tree growing and thriving in the piece.

well, that's it for right now. i don't want to overload you guys with everything that i've found this morning. :P hope everyone's projects are coming along!!
